“An anchor, a lightning rod, a banner of affirmation and a challenge to not give up—the Cave Canem Prize has been all of this and more, linking me to positive mentorship and guidance as I navigate my just-burgeoning career as an emerging poet. It’s only fitting that the Cave Canem Poetry Prize would aid in bringing my first book into the world, since it’s been Cave Canem, itself, that—through fellowship and instruction—has bolstered my commitment to and passion for writing, and has served as a necessary cradle for much of my artistic output.”
