John Murillo is the author of the collection, "Up Jump the Boogie" (Cypher 2010). A graduate of New York University's MFA program in creative writing, he has received fellowships from the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA, and the New York Times. He is a two-time Larry Neal Writers' Award winner and the inaugural Elma Stuckey Poet-in-Residence at Columbia College Chicago. His poetry has appeared in such publications as Callaloo, Court Green, Ninth Letter, and Ploughshares. In 2008, his work was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
