Nick Makoha

Nick fled the country with his mother, as a result of political dictatorship of Idi Amin. Nick represented Uganda in the Poetry Parnassus as part of the Cultural Olympiad. A former Writer in Residence for Newham Libraries. His 1-man-Show My Father & Other Superheroes debuted to sold-out performances at both the 2013 London Literature Festival and a special Father's day performance at the Unicorn Theatre. A national tour launches at the end of the year.


He has been a panelist at both the inaugural Being A Man Festival (Fatherhood: Past, Present & Future) and Women Of The World Festival (Bringing Up Boys). In 2005 award-winning publisher Flippedeye launched its pamphlet series with his debut The Lost Collection of an Invisible Man. That same year his poem 'The Measure of All Things’ supported the London Olympics, Back The Bid. Part of a new wave hip literature his work is relevant to both mainstream audiences and niche markets.
 He is working on his 1st full collection The Second Republic from which his poem Resurrection Man was shortlisted for the Flamingofeather poetry competition 2013. Part of his 1st poetry collection will be published in the anthology Seven New Generation African Poets and has been shortlisted for the 2014 Brunel University African Poetry Prize. As an Alumni of the Complete Works development programme he is currently a buddy to Warsan Shire and Edward Doegar on the Complete Work II.  He has presented his work at many international events and toured for the British Council in Finland, Czech Republic, the US and the Netherlands.
