Biography
Darrel Alejandro Holnes studied creative writing at the Universities of Houston and Michigan, the latter from which he earned a Masters of Fine Arts degree. His poetry has been published in Poetry Magazine, Best American Experimental Writing, Callaloo, Day One, and elsewhere in print and online. He is the co-author of PRIME: Poetry & Conversations, and the co-editor of Happiness, The Delight-Tree: An Anthology of Contemporary International Poetry. He's received scholarships to the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Cave Canem, and CantoMundo, and residencies at VCCA and the Saltonstall Arts Colony. A Presidential Inaugural Scholar, his activism was honored with US Congressional Recognition for high standards of excellence and outstanding achievement in civics and the arts. He teaches at Rutgers University and New York University, works with writers at the United Nations, and writes and resides in New York, NY.
