Cave Canem co-founder Cornelius Eady is the author of several books of poetry, including the critically acclaimed Hardheaded Weather, an NAACP Image Award nominee; Victims of the Latest Dance Craze, winner of the 1985 Lamont Prize from the Academy of American Poets; and The Gathering of My Name, nominated for the 1992 Pulitzer Prize. He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Literature, a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry, a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship to Bellagio, Italy, and The Prairie Schooner Strousse Award.
Marilyn Nelson is the author or translator of 17 books of poems and the memoir How I Discovered Poetry. Her The Fields Of Praise: New And Selected Poems won the 1998 Poets’ Prize; Carver: A Life In Poems received the 2001 Boston Globe/Hornbook Award and the Flora Stieglitz Straus Award; and Fortune’s Bones was a Coretta Scott King Honor Book. Her honors include two National Endowment for the Arts creative writing fellowships, the 1990 Connecticut Arts Award, a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship, a fellowship from the J.S. Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and the Frost Medal from the Poetry Society of America. She served as Poet Laureate of the State of Connecticut 2001 – 2006.
