The Legacy Conversation Series

The Legacy Conversation Series, founded in 2001, takes the form of a conversation between renowned poets whose work or lives have significant points of encounter or they are interviews of distinguished poets by younger poets who were mentored by them.

Each event provides an in-depth look at the work of one or two poets, beginning with a reading and followed by a discussion of the personal and literary influences each poet experienced, and the interaction between their personal and professional lives. Participants to date include Lucille Clifton and Sonia Sanchez, Yusef Komunyakaa, Jayne Cortez and Sekou Sundiata, Michael Harper and Afaa Michael Weaver, Haki Madhubuti, Rita Dove, Lorenzo Thomas, Naomi Long Madgett, Amiri Baraka, E. Ethelbert Miller, Derek Walcott, and Charles Rowell.
