Cave Canem fellowships provide African American poets with an unparalleled opportunity to study with a world-class faculty and join a community of peers. Fellows commit to attending three weeklong summer residencies within a five-year period.

During this week-long residency you will:

• Write and workshop a poem every day.

• Work intensively with talented peers and six extraordinary teachers.

• Enjoy a seminar with guest poet Ntozake Shange.

• Attend two faculty readings.

• Present your own poetry at a fellows reading.

• Reflect, explore, discuss and, of course, write.

Enrollment is limited to 54.

Tuition: Free to fellows through charitable donations from corporate, foundation and government sources, and the generosity of individuals.

Room & Board: $500. Very limited scholarship support is available. After acceptance into the program, fellows may request financial assistance, offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
