Because We Come from Everything
As part of Cave Canem’s participation in the Poetry Coalition, a historic collaboration among 20 nonprofit poetry organizations, you are invited to submit an original poem via video or text for a month-long, multi-tiered project supported by the Academy of American Poets, CantoMundo, Kundiman, the Poetry Project, and many others. As its first public offering, throughout the month of March 2017, Poetry Coalition partners will present multiple programs on the theme Because We Come from Everything: Poetry & Migration, which borrows a line from U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera’s poem “Borderbus.”
Your textual or video poem responding to the theme of migration will appear in an on-line anthology, Cave Canem: Because We Come from Everything, which will launch on March 1, 2017 on a dedicated Tumblr site, and be shared on Cave Canem’s and other Poetry Coalition members’ social media channels.
To participate, by February 15, 2017:
- Upload a video of yourself reading your poem to YouTube. (Click for instructions on how to do so). You may also submit a creative video using other images/footage, accompanied by the audio of your poem. Once your video is uploaded, send the link to Kyla Marshell: kmarshell[at]ccpoets[dot]org. Or:
- Send the text of your poem as a MS Word document to Kyla.
- Note: Poems may be previously published. If so, include attribution in the “Basic Info” box on YouTube, or for text submissions, within the Word document.
